The problem-solving pacemaker, Slowbro, hits the Highlander field with great team support and an ever-present eye for prize-taking opportunities.
Strategy Points:
- “Strange Behavior” allows you to accumulate as many damage counters as you want to Slowbro (without knocking it out.) Super Potion is a great card to use here. While Nidoqueen, and Serperior can heal with their respective Poké-Bodies even more if you properly split up the damage on your board.
- Fresh Water Set, Picnic Basket, and Last Chance Potion are also great options that Slowbro can help push in healing potential.
- “Walk-Off Homer” initiates a lot of pressure on the opponent. Because they might prepare with dialed up offense and defense, consider the following countermeasures to net an extra prize card:
- A Z-Crystal will have “Mad Kinesis” do a base of 90 damage before additional Psychic or Water Energy (respectively). You can also use “Z-Walk-Off Homer” for Regular Slowbro to potentially take four prize cards with “Mad Kinesis” next turn. Galarian Slowbro will mark the Defending Pokémon with double Poison, aiding in a “Mad Kinesis” Knock Out next turn.
- A “Triple Acceleration Energy” can activate Walk-Off Homer instantly. Because it’s a 1-of, you can use Furret’s “Scavenger Hunt” or Special Charge to quickly recover the card. Then use Guzma & Hala or Energy Exchanger to get the card ready for “Mad Kinesis.”
- You can also use “Net Force” and “Wash Out” from Reuniclus and Swampert to move as many Psychic or Water Energy needed for a Knock Out next turn.
- Stockpiling on cards to guarantee a Knock Out, like PlusPower, Professor Kukui, Lysandre, Serena, Pokémon Catcher, Toy Catcher, or Counter Catcher are great methods to get a Knock Out with “Mad Kinesis.”
- Metagross not only provides a potential bench pulling Knock Out combo with “Magnetic Reversal”, but “Gravitation” lowers the required the damage ceiling by 20HP. You can also use “Gravity Change” from Lunatone to further this by 10HP.
- “Mad Kinesis” works well with Energy movers such as the previously mentioned Reuniclus and Swampert. As well as “Magical Trans” from Mismagius and “Special Boost” from Clawitzer.
- Slowpoke’s “Rambunctious Party” allows for a fast accumulation of Pokémon that can help your lead in the early game. All while having shuffle armor for added protection. “Rain Splash” is something to consider if you run Politoed or Nidoqueen to help reduce the cost of your attacks. Allowing to do a quick 20 damage if that’s all that is needed after a “Walk-Off Homer” with Shrine of Memories in play.
- Galarian Slowpoke’s “Tantalizing” can cause great disruption throughout the game. If you pair it with a Z-Crystal either the Defending or a new Pokémon of your choice will be double Poisoned until they leave the board.
- Mega Slowbro:
- “Shell Armor” has two layers of defense: Damage buff negation and a constant minus 10 defensive modifier. Paired with the extra HP, you can use the previous listed strategies with a higher average lifespan.
- Either form of Slowbro will have their Weakness and Resistance changed upon Mega Evolving. “Mad Kinesis” doing an initial 20 more damage helps with the previously mentioned “Walk-Off Homer” plays.
