Pidgeot – Pokémon TCG Highlander

Pre Evolutions:

Form Change:

The Double Colorless Swiss army knife. Pidgeot flies into Highlander with a great range of attacks that branch into attacker disruption and high damage shortcuts, all for the same cost.

Strategy Points:

  • “Mirror Move” is a strong threat, even if it’s never used during a match. The ability to copy any amount of Damage or Effect on your command for a potential lower cost in Energy is something that opponent’s will need to stay cautious about.
  • The use of “Whirlwind” is something to take note against decks that heavily invest in big multi energy attackers. If you use Galar Mine or Field Blower their Float Stone, you can potentially stun your opponent’s momentum while dealing a reliable 50 damage.
  • “Headwind” works in tangent with “Whirlwind”, if the opponent is demonstrating a need for a specific attack for their overarching strategy, this creates a demand for an average of two more turns of Energy to continue moving forward. Doing 60 damage adds an additional layer of pressure, putting most Highlander Pokémon in KO range.
  • With access to “Call for Family”, Pidgey serves to quickly set up your bench with additional Pokemon that can assist Pidgeot, like Metagross and Jellicent.
  • “Twister” from Pidgeotto is a great way to potentially discard crucial energy from the Defending Pokemon. You can use Triple Acceleration Energy to speed up the process on a possible one Energy to discard two scenario.
  • Mega Pidgeot:
  • The ability to bypass defensive buffs with “No Guard” allows for Mega Pidgeot to do 80 damage with “Headwind”, before additional modifiers such as Professor Kakui and Altaria.
  • There are a lot of power coin flip effects that you can control thanks to “No Guard”, including: – Articuno’s “Freezing Screech”, Super Scoop Up, Metagross’s “Magnetic Reversal”, and Cram-o-Matic.
  • The increased damage from Mega Pidgeot creates a scenario for the opponent to always consider that their last attack can now be copied for 20 more damage and/or a controlled coin flip result, all for two Colorless Energy.
