Omastar – Pokémon TCG Highlander

Pre Evolution:

Form Change:

No Energy, one Energy, or a lot of Energy—Omastar thrives to push board-altering options upon arrival.

Strategy Points:

  • “Primal Swirl” places a full de-evolution wave upon your opponent’s bench. This at least places a one-step behind scenario for them while potentially giving you a lot of prize cards with enough spread damage placed on your opponent’s bench.
    • Pokémon like Delibird, Kyogre, and Kyurem all provide great spread damage attacks that can be used in the early game or right before you make a big play with Omaster.
    • You can use Red Card, N, or Iono to make your opponent shuffle the Pokémon that were just de-evolved, adding even more steps on average for your opponent to set up again.
    • Dialga, Archeops, and Dracovish all have great evolution-locking Poké-Bodies that work well with Omastar.
      • Diaga’s “Flash Cannon” can de-evolve once more for a likely knockout when you apply the average HP of a not fully evolved Basic Pokémon.
      • Archeops’s “Acrobatics” has a high damage potential for one Energy. Especially when paired with modifiers like Strong Energy, PlusPower, and Stonjourner.
      • Dracovish’s “Bite Crash” provides a fast way to deal damage for one Water Energy, which can quickly activate “Primal Law” when paired with “Primal Swirl” and a bench pulling effect like Toy Catcher or Lysandre/Guzma.
  • “Pull Down” is able to quickly stack with the previously mentioned de-evolving strategies. Because it stacks with “Primal Swirl,” you can get multiple knockouts in one turn.
    • A Z-Crystal will have Omastar use a double “Hydrocannon” the next time it is used. With a de-evolved board on your opponent’s side, you can easily get two knockouts.
  • “Hydrocannon” rewards stacking multiple Water Energy onto Omastar, creating a potential game-sweeping scenario. Especially if you’ve already spread damage and/or de-evolved your opponent’s board.
    • Swampert and Golduck BREAK can swiftly move Water Energy to Omastar to meet high HP numbers for a knockout.
    • You can use Articuno’s “Legendary Ascent” to mass-move Water Energy to it. Then you can promote it as an attacker, use Blizzard for high potential spread damage, then use Ninja Boy to swap to Omanyte on your next turn, allowing you to use “Primal Swirl” and at least an 80-damage “Hydrocannon” in one turn.
  • Omastar BREAK:
  • “Dangerous Tentacle” is a strong once-per-turn effect that will easily pull up any Pokémon-EX on your opponent’s side. With Omastar’s de-evolving options, there can be non-fully evolved Pokémon that are still considered EXs out, allowing for quick knockout scenarios.
    • You can use Tentacruel, Linoone, and Eneporter to make other targets an EX, allowing for more disruptive plays and potential knockouts.
  • 140HP and a great bench pulling effect allows for Omastar BREAK to become a game winning Pokémon. You can help keep it healthy with Lana, Vaporeon, Auroras, and Glaceon.
