Thanks to our community member, Toadyhoady, we were able to play this fun format that had us creating new combos from this new set of limitations. This format actually has quite a bit of traction with other Master Duel players. Providing quite a platform for players to regard past ideas as their own. Hopefully, we can revisit this format again soon!

Here’s what each player brought:

SPIRE_FAN

I remember pulling Gora Turtle out of a sealed gifted Pharaonic Guardian booster pack in 2009 (Rare enough set to be out of the factory, still amongst 3rd party “huge bundle deal” repackages at Wal-Mart!) While I didn’t get back into competing in Yugioh until 2011, I kept that card on the backburner. Once I began my journey with Ocean Dragon Lord – Neo-Daedalus, Gora Turtle was one of the first momentum stoppers I utilized, with the help of Mother Grizzly. While all of the Atlantean monsters and most Mermails used in my main deck were SR or UR, I was able to modify the deck into a more Umi-centric defensive playstyle. The cherry on top was finding The Monarchs Erupt, taking advantage of running no Extra Deck while having multiple tribute summon monsters to activate the effect and have protection thanks to Tornado Wall and Sea Stealth Attack. With moredialed-upp Defense, the goal was to get out Ocean Dragon Lord – Neo-Daedalus and activate his effect. A blend of classic and new strategies, this deck was a lot of fun to play.

PMurphy (Champion)

It was a lot of fun to see a deck with Flip Monsters go full force in its strengths. You would think that PMurphy was bringing a full defensive 180 from his last winning deck, but this deck had its own take on burst options to grab momentum and win. With the help of World Legacy cards and a classic triple Mystical Space Typhoon (that negates!), this deck demonstrated a solid foundation that takes multiple smart plays to crack! Opening with Krawler Spine and Krawler Axon proved to be dangerous throughout the tournament. But once Deus X-Krawler hit the board, the timer kicked in, deciding whether attacking or defending was more risky for the opponent.

Thanks again to all of the players that entered, and congrats to PMurphy for taking home the gold. We will see you next month as we begin to arrange dates on the community discord!
