With strong bench protection, mobility, and range, Dugtrio burrows into Highlander with effective utility for a plethora of strategies while punishing the opponent’s movement. 

Strategy Points:

  • “Sand Veil” provides great protection for your Pokemon while stopping drawbacks from high damaging attacks, such as:
    • Donphan’s “Earthquake”
    • Zapdos’s “Raging Thunder”
    • Zygarde’s “Geostrike”
    • Whiscash’s “Earthquake” and “Magnitude”
  • The punishment from “Sinkhole” quickly adds up if you have high amounts of bench pulling disruption, like:
    • Zangoose, Throh, and Metagross
    • Pokemon Catcher, Escape Rope, and Repel
  • “Dig Under” creates free range for dealing 50 damage wherever you want on your opponent’s board. The previously mentioned bench pulling combos can create scenarios where you can get an unwanted Pokémon stuck for your opponent as you snipe for 50 damage on their bench.
  • Regular Diglett’s “Submerge” provides important self-protection as you prepare Dugtrio to protect your entire bench. You can use “Dig Through” as early as your first turn going second to set up future knock outs with “Dig Under” by the next turn.
  • Alolan Diglett’s “Call for Family” for no Energy is a great way to set up an attacker that Dugtrio can freely retreat into on the next turn.
  • Dugtrio – Level X:
  • “Sismomètre Warning” is a high risk-high reward Poké-Power that can be easily prepared for to land exactly three heads from your coin flips during your turn:
  • “Tectonic Turf Control” does great damage for one Energy with the capability to discard your opponent’s Stadium with extra protection given to Dugtrio – Level X.
    • Brooklet Hill is great to further set up your Fighting and Water Pokémon, while Lake Acuity bolsters the defenses of your Metal and Water Pokémon.
