The wide arsenal runner of countertype play, Dewgong, arrives at Highlander with matchup swinging counter play and great damage spread potential.
Strategy Points:
“Cold Fat” is a great defensive Poké-Body that can make a huge turn by turn difference when its requisites are met. Any type of Energy that provides at least one of these types, like Rainbow, Aurora, and Dragon Energy (when attached to a Dragon Type Pokémon) activate the requisites here.
You can run Pokémon like Ariados, Wigglytuff, Venusaur, Salazzle, and Amoongus to inflict Special Conditions on both Dewgong and the Defending Pokémon, elevating offensive and defensive pressure.
Windup Arm allows Dewgong to attack while Asleep or Paralyzed, allowing for Wigglytuff to potentially provide a free defensive boost each turn. You can also run All-Night Party to get a 30 heal each turn this way.
“Ice Shard” already does good chip damage for one Energy. The ability to hit for 70 against three types known to already have Weaknesses to Water creates a lethal hard counter attack that can easily deal 140 damage.
“Dual Blizzard” dials up the offensive pressure with 80 damage placed on the board, all while Dewgong can hold sturdy thanks to “Cold Fat.”
You can run Double Colorless and Triple Acceleration Energy to help stream this attack. You can also run a plethora of Poké-Power energy acceleration combos, like: Naganadel + Hydreigon, Floatzel + Swampert, and Yanmega + Sceptile.
Greninja, Meowscarada, Chandelure, and Gengar all provide great damage spread Poké-Powers to help Dewgong potentially get two Knock Outs in a turn.
Seel has great HP for a not-fully Evolved Pokémon. “Growl” adds to this longevity while a turn one “Headbutt” going second serves as great chip damage that can be finished as a Knock Out later with “Dual Blizzard.”
Dewgong – Level X:
“Rest and Perish” adds to Dewgong’s already great overall bulk with a strong edge in offensive pressure thanks to its Energy acceleration and instant Knock Out effect.
You can run Dugtrio, Ariados, Jellicent, Galar Mine, Toxapex, Dust Island, and Galvantula to create a lot of pressure as your opponent scrambles to promote a new Pokémon to stop a guaranteed Knock Out.
“Wave Dive” is game winning attack when you set up a tactful strategy of spread damage. The Pokémon listed at the bottom of “Dual Blizzard” can help create a snowball effect for Knock Outs each turn while Dewgong – Level X remains protected.
Metagross, Lunatone, Omastar, and Archeops all have board altering options to lower the maximum HP of Pokemon. Even if Dewgong – Level X’s HP is lowered, the protection from this attack can be achieved more easily on average
