Lethal healing is the name of Butterfree’s game. With an abundance of disruption and protection, Butterfree can quickly collect game-winning momentum in only a few turns.
Strategy Points:
“Sooth Dust” provides a vast wave of momentum halting burst healing. One Potion provides 60 healing, stopping a lot of average turns that has a Pokémon attack. Using “Ripples” from Mantine or “Sunny Heal” from Cherrim creates a free 40 heal scenario.
Mass healing effects from Serperior’s “Royal Heal” or Fresh Water Set can completely negate spread damage strategies while keeping your entire team healthy.
90 is a phenomenal net number for one Energy from “Parallel Drain” thanks to “Sooth Dust”. Damage modifiers like Vitality Band, PlusPower, and “Sunny Day” from Cherrim adds even more, all while having the ability to heal any of your Pokémon that you want.
With “Hyper Reverse”, a 3 Energy attacker is already taking 60 damage while you heal 90. You can use “Thankfulness” from Shaymin – Level X – Land or “Green Aroma” from Venusaur to add extra layers of protection for Butterfree and your other Grass Pokémon.
Caterpie’s “Pupate” provides a fast route to getting out Butterfree as early as the first turn if you combine it with cards like Wally or Broken Time-Space. Allowing for a blitz in “Parallel Drain” plays.
Metapod’s “Green Shield” can help swing matchups by getting rid of the Weaknesses on all of your Grass Pokémon. This is especially strong with Shedinja, who also pairs well with Shaymin – Level X – Land and Cherrim to create a hard to KO wall with high amounts of disruption and fire power.
With Butterfree – Level X:
“Reactive Pollen” quickly stacks extra damage with Pokémon that can inflict multiple Special Conditions, like Venusaur, Salazzle, and Amoongus. Combine this with Stadiums like Virbank City Gym and Full Flame, and the average fully evolved Pokémon can be KOd before you even attack.
Using Roserade while having Budew used in its Evolution line provides the perfect set up for 4 Special Conditions to be inflicted at the same time thanks to Blend Energy {G}{R}{P}{D}. While this can easily lead to a KO, you can guarantee it with a Pokémon that can inflict Paralysis like Vanilluxe or Articuno (Either Form).
“Reactive Wave Winds” is a potentially brutal attack that punishes your opponent for stockpiling Energy onto potential revenge attackers and counter sweepers against Butterfree. Even without this, the base 10 damage spread will start marking your opponent’s Pokémon for potential future KOs, all while you can heal and disrupt with Butterfree.
