Pre Evolutions:

Form Changes:

Knockouts dropping left and right are a warning sign of a deck built with Charizard in mind. With an easy conversion process, Charizard kindles with any type.

Strategy Points:

  • “Energy Flame” allows for any Energy attached to Charizard to provide Fire. Double Colorless and Triple Acceleration Energy allow for fast access to both attacks while Strong and Powerful Energy add even more damage for crucial knockouts.
  • The easy discard cost for “Burning Tail” allows for Charizard to stream Energy that activate upon attachment, like Herbal and Cyclone.
  • Burning Energy is another option to consider alongside Double Colorless and Triple Acceleration to stream “Blast Burn” every turn.
  • Charizard still works well with Fire type Pokémon and strategies. Both Magcargo and Heatran and their Level Xs provide a lot of sustainability for Charizard to stream high damage every turn.
  • With Form Changes:
  • Mega Charizard X provides boost in 30 damage while piercing through walls that could otherwise stop Charizard’s hyper offensive strategies.
  • Dragon/Fire dual typing allows for Mega Charizard X to work with Altaria, Cherrim, and Devoured Field as damage modifiers.
  • Mega Charizard Y also provides a 30 damage boost while granting your Fire types their own 10 boost. The healing for your Grass Pokémon works well with Cherrim and Bellosom.
  • Lowering the damage of your opponent’s water Pokémon by 10 can swing a matchup in your favor. Especially when using Water resistant attackers like Kyurem and Maractus.
  • You can also use Exploud and Aegislash to get rid of Mega Charizard Y’s Water weakness.
  • With increased HP, both Mega Charizard Form Changes can take advantage of Charmeleon’s “Rage” attack thanks to “Shrine of Memories”. Charmander’s “Lava Burn” can also pick off Pokémon that retreated with 10 HP remaining.
